Bear sophomore forward Cory Caouette scored at the 12:16 mark of the
third period to lift Brown by UMass-Lowell, 3-2, in a hard-fought game at
Tsongas Arena this evening. As he was skating backward thru the low slot,
Caouette took a pass from junior forward Chris Swon, delayed his shot until
River Hawk junior goaltender Chris Davidson provided an opening, and fired
home the winning goal from the bottom of the left faceoff circle.

Brown had taken an early lead at 5:06 of the opening frame when Swon dug
the puck out of a goalmouth jam and nudged it across the goal line before
Davidson knew where it was. The scrum went on for at least 10 seconds
before the referee Hache signaled a score, although the goal judge had
turned on his light moments before. Senior forward Yann Danis was later
awarded an assist on Swon's tally.

The Bears added a second goal at 15:09, on another scramble in the
Lowell crease, as freshman forward Brian Ihnacak scooped the puck out of the
crowd and into the slot where senior forward Nick Ringstad lofted a
turnaround shot over Davidson's glove from the edge of the right faceoff
circle.

Lowell started its comeback with a score at 18:15 of the first on a
slapshot from five feet inside the left point by sophomore forward Mark
Pandolfo that beat Brown senior goaler and Hobey Baker candidate, Yann
Danis, who was screened on the play. The puck also appeared to be deflected
on its way to the net. Sophomore forwards Brad King and Elias Godoy were
credited with assists on the goal.

The River Hawks evened the score on an unassisted goal by sophomore
forward Danny O'Brien at 14:09 of the middle stanza. O'Brien stole the puck
off the usually rock-solid Bear sophomore defenseman, Adam Tischauer, looked
as if he intended to skate past the right post and behind the Brown net, but
instead swerved in front and tucked the puck by Danis on the short side.

The game remained tied until Cauoette's gamewinner midway through the
final period. Tonight's contest was the Bears' final NC game of the season
and the victory raised their out-of-conference record to 2-2-3.

With back-to-back wins against HEA teams this week (Brown handed the
Merrimack Warriors a 6-2 loss last Tuesday night), the Bears appear to have
revitalized their recently latent offense (with a cumulative 9 goals) and
now turn their attention to the balance of the ECAC schedule as they await
their rematch with the Harvard Crimson next Saturday at Meehan Auditorium
(4:00 p.m.). This game represents the first conference tilt for both teams
in over three weeks and is likely to have a major impact on the battle for
ECAC & Ivy leadership.
