From the Union viewpoint, the admissions change is designed to help level the
playing field with all of the other schools in the ECAC, to the degree
possible. Let''s be realistic, if someone gave you a choice of going to
college for free somewhere vs getting loans, which would you choose.

Additionally, the big distinction, is until this point, Canada was considered
an extension of the US for financial aid purposes. Beginning with this
year's recruiting, Canada is now considered to be a foreign country and thus
the students brought in from Canada can be considered for grants that do not
require repayment.

Is it perfect? No. of course not. But it is (at least in theory) close to
what the rest of the League is doing--whether they admit it or not.

Fwiw, as for the football team, who are now 7-2 entering their season finale
against Springfield next week, their schedule if anything has been harder
this year than in recent years. Remember, Union lost many of their
traditional rivalries when NESCAC schools elected to play an all-interlocking
schedules, ending rivalries that had existed, in some cases, for nearly a
century.

It included a victory over the College of NJ, (pre-season #4 by SI) as well
as a 3-1 record in their league (UCAA--losing only to RPI --ugh!).

Union has the nation's #1 defense (at least before their 52-0 win over
Rochester yesterday) and has one of the 10 best records in Division III in
the 90's.
