Bowling Green played its best game of the season en route to a 7-4
victory over visiting Michigan. The Wolverines rough style of play
backfired, as the Falcon penalty killing led the way. BG held Michigan
to only 1 of 7 with the man advantage and added a short-handed tally.

Sean Pronger started and ended the scoring, with his first coming just
23 seconds into the contest and his second hitting the empty net with
47 ticks left. In between, Brian Holzinger netted a hat trick for BG.
(Several hats, but no people, were thrown out on the ice. One of my
C-YA busters signs made it out there, too.) Four different Wolverines
tallied.

In goal, Will Clarke was simply magnificent. By my count, 18 of his 32
saves were from very close range. Michigan's Steve Shields made several
impressive saves, but he also fell asleep and gave up some "savable"
goals.

Regarding UofM's rough play, Brian Wiseman led the way with 6 minor
calls against him, including an odd 6-minute combo for high sticking &
charging & roughing. Of interest to HOCKEY-L, Ted Kramer hit the
showers early after getting a 10-minute misconduct with less than 5
minutes to go in the game. To be fair, referee Roger Graff was very
inconsistent and had both benches baffled by his calls.

BG was also led by 3 returning blueliners: Glen Mears missed 1 game
with a bad back, Greg de Vries was out for a month with academic
problems, and Ken Klee saw his first ice time of the season (knee).
Jeff Wells is still out with a shoulder injury.

Re-match tonight at Yost Arena. This game will be televised nationally,
so expect more rough play.
