When Mankato State played here, I was most impressed.
They play a very nice, aggressive offensive game which
is a pleasure to watch (especially for UAA fans). Also,
they have a pretty fair record playing WCHA teams this
year and appear to have done fairly well against North
Dakota last weekend. I think that not only have they
earned the 'right' to join, but would make an excellent
addition. I hope they make it!!
Currently, they are playing with less than a full scholarship
compliment, so even more improvement is likely over the
next few years. Accomplishments to date are MOST significant:
the difficulties/adversity in getting Minnesota State Officials
to even allow Division I, getting a new arena built, playing
at the current level without a full 'ride' roster, spending
22 years building a hockey program, etc. I do think that it
might prove an embarrassment to some of the big, long time,
established programs if Mankato came in and proved to be
highly competitive - certainly would increase public pressure
for more consistent success - much as Colorado College did
over the past three years.
