Agreed...I understand the point SteveB was trying to make, but felt it
could have been done in a better way.  If I were the official mentioned, I
wouldn't be happy to see my name in connection with an incident that never
occurred.

I'll only add that they actually have a responsibility to protect all of
the players, not just the better ones.  But in the end, no matter how
poorly a game may be officiated, that's still no excuse for some of the
infractions that players occasionally commit.  No referee forces a player
to hurt another.
