I have to echo Dave Hendrick's comments. What is negative about "Fighting
Sioux?" We ROOT for our home team. The nickname is a beloved part of our
alma mater. Its not like they called them the "Wimpy Sioux" or "Bloodthirsty
Savage Sioux" - Fighting Sioux should be a proud thing to be called.

Hmm... What if I lived in Zaire and the local football team was know as the
"Slavers" - I think that would bother me. But if they were the "Fierce
Whiteys" - so what?

Living in a state with a surfeit of American Indian names I wind up at a
school that clevely labels itself the Pointers. Yuch!
