The defending NCAA Div I National Champion University of Maine
Black Bears opened their season with a 5-1 win over the Prov-
idence College Friars Friday night at Providence.
 
After a scoreless first period Maine scored three unanswered
goals in the second period and added two more in the third
period. Providence's lone goal came in the third.
 
In goal for Maine was Blair Marsh, who had 23 saves. Box
