MORE ON ERIN WHITTEN
Apparently, Erin Whitten will be given a tryout with the ECHL's Toledo
Storm. She will battle minor league veterans Paul Cohen and Alain
Harvey.
Toledo coach Chris McSorley, who was in attendance for Whitten's
exhibition game against the AHL's cornwall aces, said, "She's
a great athlete \, she's quick. She'll be able to compete for
the job."
Whitten commented, with slight redundance, "Toledo has a good reputation as
a good team.... Also, I've heard good things about their coaching staff."
McSorley dispelled rumors that bringing in Whitten might be a promotional
gag, in much the same way the Lightning used Manon Rheaume,
"We sell out every game in Toledo, so we don't need Erin Whitten to
increase ticket sales... the fans in Toledo are tough. Theywouldn't
care if we had Erin Whitten in goal or a martian. They want to
win hockey games."
McSorley suggested that Whitten might be used for about 10-15 games
this year.
