NCAA TRIES TO CUT COSTS:
   Over protests from a number of college football coaches -
unwilling to close the door to would-be walk-on players - an NCAA
committee is standing by a series of cost-cutting recommendations
that include limits on overall squad sizes. Also proposed: Scaling
back recruiting, including elimination of specialized recruiting
coordinators, and ending putting teams in hotels before home
games.
