PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on April 5 that Providence College
hockey players sophomore Devin Rask (Parkside, Saskatchewan)and sophomore
Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) were named to the 2001 Second
Team All-America East Team. It marks the first time a Providence College
Hockey player has earned All-America accolades since Chad Quenneville was
honored in 1995. It also marks the fourth time PC has had two or more
All-Americans in the same season and the first time since 1985.
Rask, the Friars' top scorer, also was named to the New England Division I
All-Star Team and was a First Team All-HOCKEY EAST selection. This season,
Rask tallied 23 goals and 28 assists in 38 games, placing him second
overall in HOCKEY EAST. Rask also was second in scoring in HOCKEY EAST
play with 33 points (15 goals, 18 assists) in 24 games. Rask, a former
Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League star, is the son of Roger and Arlene Rask.
Schaefer, emerged as one of the top netminders in HOCKEY EAST this season,
backboning the Friars resurgence and becoming the first Friar netminder to
earn All-America honors since Chris Terreri received the accolades in
1986. The sophomore goaltender was second in HOCKEY EAST play with a .912
save percentage. In 25 games this season, Schaefer recorded a 15-8-2 record
with a 2.47 goals against average. The sophomore sensation also earned
Second Team All-HOCKEY EAST honors and was a New England All-Star
selection. Schaefer, a graduate of Yellow Grass High School, is the son
