FROM AN ARTICLE BY JESS MYERS IN THE MINNESOTA DAILY TODAY:
The Gophers have moved within three wins of clinching their ninth league title
since conference play began in 1951.
Minnesota currently holds a six-point advantage over the Wisconsin Badgers and
has played two fewer games. Any combination of Minnesota wins and Wisconsin
losses totalling three will bring the Mac Naughton Cup to Mariucci Arena for
the third time in the past five years.
The Gophers face Colorado College this weekend at Mariucci Arena, while
Wisconsin is idle.
UP FROM THE DEPTHS
Two seasons ago, the Michigan Tech Huskies bumbled to a 6-22 WCHA record. In
the turmoil that followed, coach Herb Boxer resigned --- despite being named
WCHA Coach of the Year just two seasons earlier --- and school officials fired
long-time athletic director Ted Kearly.
Now with new coach Newell Brown at the helm, the Huskies are currently tied
for third place with arch-rival Northern Michigan. The two team face each
other this weekend in a home-and-home series.

Way to go Huskies! For those of you who don't know...Michigan Tech was an
NC$$ power in the mid 70's. Minnesota and Michigan Tech traded spots as the
NC$$ Champion and runner-up in '75 and '76.
I am anxiously awaiting the return of the Mac Naughton Cup to Mariucci and
will DEFINITELY have my camera on hand for the traditional skate around the
rink this time!
