The Bulldogs beat Sore Loser State, oops, Saint Cloud State 3-2 at a sold
out DECC last night. Sergei Petrov put in the game winner on an
excellent pass from Laird Lidster right in front of those Saint Cloud
jerks, er, fans (In case you can't tell yet, I'll have a story about
the fans) at 3:14 of the overtime to extend the unbeaten streak to 8.
Saint Cloud played a good, albeit chippy, game, with 'walk on' goaltender
Jason Jiskra stopping 40 shots and being named the player of the game in
his first game of the season. The Dogs scored on their second shot of
the game, and St. Cloud scored the next two, still in the first period.
The Bulldogs had a 5-on-3 and multiple power play opportunities in the
second, but couldn't put the puck in the net. The Dogs tied it in the
third and gave SCSU a good chance to win it when Rusty Fitzgerald took a
penalty at 18:45 of the third. The Dogs killed that pff and had all the
pressure in the overtime.

Now, for the editorial....

I quickly discovered last night which team in the WCHA has the worst
fans. I'll just say it wasn't the home team. Most fans who go on road
trips with their teams are knowledgable, sportsmanlike people. These
people are the goons of hockey fans. While getting people off of the
stairs and into their seats, which were occupied by someone else, I was
cheerfully greeted with language that is not appropriate for Hockey-L, or
a hockey game for that matter. (Well, maybe a pro game ;)) A fine chant
of "Leave the fans alone" was started. (They have good rhythm, I'll give
them that.) Then, as I was removing more people from the stairs, a man
(well, a male member of the species) told me I should get a real job, and
then a tirade of unmentionables spewed forth from some jerk with a flag.
He wore a hat with number 17 on it, so I don't know if he's related to
Dan Reimann or not, but I sure wouldn't want to be related to him. If I
were a member of SCSU's hockey team, or a student or faculty member, I
would be thouroughly embarrassed by the actions of these 'fans'. As the
Dogs scored the game winner, another DECC employee and I cheered as our
hometown favorites had won. One lady told us to kiss her a**, and some
guy said we had a lot of nerve to do that there. (In our own building,
nonetheless)

End of editorial....
