Portland -- The University of Maine Black Bears staved off a
University of New Hampshire Wildcats comeback to win 4-3
tonight at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Maine dominated early on, outshooting UNH 13-3 in the first
period en route to a 2-0 lead. UNH, however, jumped all over
Maine in the second period, launching 18 shots-on-goal to
MAine's 10. But Maine goalie Blair Allison turned away 17
of UNH's second period shots, while his teammates converted
on one shot to end the second period with the Black Bears
leading 3-1.

With Hockey East's new, retroactive scoring system, Maine
earns 5 points to improve to 1-0-2 in HE, 4-0-2 overall.
New Hampshire is 0-1-0 in HE, 3-2 overall.

The teams play again tomorrow night at Harold Alfond
Sports Arena on the Maine campus in Orono.
