I remember hearing about this. To draw a comparison, what kind of
community/booster support exists for the Kent program? Enough to save
it like the Ferris community did?
What really amazes me about this whole thing is that just a year and a
half ago, Kent paid $100,000 to the CCHA as an expansion fee so its
hockey team could join - and now they want to drop the sport. Heck of
a long range planning job by the folks in charge at KSU.
Or, maybe this is what is known as cutting your losses.
I believe that as usually happens when a school drops a sport, those
athletes would be free to jump to another school and play right away
without sitting out a year. I wonder if the vultures have begun
circling yet. In overall scoring, junior Claude Morin was 8th in the
CCHA with 17-39--56 in 39 games. Fellow JR Dean Sylvester had
22-24--46 in 39 GP.
I wish the best to the people at Kent and their fans in trying to
keep the program alive.
