(end of Hockey East league play until January 2)

By the way, PASS will have the Great Western Freeze-out from LA
    on Thursday, 12/20 (BC-Minnesota, Toronto-MSU) and Friday, 12/21.

I saw a little of BU-Lowell on tv last night, and the Terriers just
rolled over the Chiefs the way they did Merrimack. Before the
season I thought BC was better than BU, but it is definitely up
in the air right now. BU is doing everything right and seems to have
gotten back the killer instinct they had at the end of last year.
The remainder of the season will be interesting and I expect it to
wind up a close race (I had said BC *could* have wrapped it up by
Christmas, but BU woke up earlier than I thought they would).
BC, BU and Maine all have a good shot, and UNH and PC are going to
play a big part in deciding which team wins it even though these two
may not have the horses the top three do.

In Maine, Mike Dunham stopped 23 shots to shutout UNH. The Wildcats
had been averaging close to 50 shots per game lately, but apparently
Maine's defense did a fine job of shutting that down.

Holiday tourneys Hockey East teams will be involved in -

BOSTON COLLEGE Great Western Freeze-out, Los Angeles (CA), vs Minnesota
 12/20,
                          vs Toronto/Michigan State 12/21.
LOWELL Syracuse Invitational, Syracuse (NY), vs Colgate 12/28,
                vs Cornell/Lake Superior 12/29.
MAINE Dexter Shoe Classic, Orono (ME), vs Brown 12/21, vs Clarkson/
                Western Michigan 12/22.
Great Lakes Invitational, Detroit (MI), vs Michigan State 12/28,
                vs Michigan/Michigan Tech 12/29.
MERRIMACK Nissan/Jeep Classic, Anchorage (AK), vs British Columbia 12/22,
                    vs Dartmouth/Alaska-Anchorage 12/23.
NEW HAMPSHIRE Sheraton/USAir Classic, Burlington (VT), vs Dartmouth 12/29,
                        vs Northeastern/Vermont 12/30
NORTHEASTERN Sheraton/USAir Classic, Burlington (VT), vs Vermont 12/29,
                        vs New Hampshire/Dartmouth 12/30

Finally, next Friday, 12/21, Boston University will host a Soviet team
at Walter Brown Arena. I'm not sure which team this will be; it may the
one playing in the tourney in Albany at the end of the month.
