KENNEDY EARNS WCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
For the second week in a row, and sixth time in 14 weeks this season, a
Minnesota player was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's
League player of the week.
Senior Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass./Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) is
the first blueliner to earn the league award this season and receives the
award for the second time in her career, having been named the league's
player of the week Nov. 29, 1999, following a school-record five-assist
performance in a 7-1 win over Minnesota State, Mankato.
This past weekend, Kennedy led the Gophers to 6-1 and 8-5 wins over
Bemidji State, extending Minnesota's winning streak to eight games and its
WCHA unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Over the weekend, she scored two goals and six points to go with a
plus/minus rating of plus-four. She was not on the ice for any of Bemidji
Statešs six goals in the series.
Kennedy is also one of Minnesota's two nominees for this year's Patty
Kazmaier Award and the only player at her position on the list of nominees.
