Spartans winless streak at Munn continues: Dating back to last season,
Michigan State has compiled an 0-5-2 mark at Munn Arena heading into this
weekends series with Boston College. MSU lost twice to Boston University in
the NCAA Second Round last spring, and this year tied and lost to LSSU, tied
WMU, lost to BGSU and tied Michigan. This is the Spartans' longest winless
streak at home since Ron Mason took over for the 1979-80 season.
Dowd sets two LSSU records, ties a third: The Lakers' senior Jim Dowd, with
his eight point weekend, now holds the LSSU career record for points with 219
(75-144), while his 144 assists ties him with Julio Francella ('71-75). Dowd
tallied two shorthanded goals on Friday, marking the first time a Laker player
ever tallied two shorthanded goals in a game. Ironically, it is the second
time in his career that Dowd has scored two shorthanded goals in a series vs.
Western Michigan (last coming 2/17-18/89).
Jiranek on GWG tear: After scoring both game-winning goals in Bowling Green's
sweep of Michigan State two weekends ago, the Falcons Martin Jiranek scored an
unassisted goal 2:41 into overtime Friday at Miami. In Saturday's game,
Jiranek assisted on Brett Harkins game-tying goal early in the third period.
