No real surprise that Princeton could knock off BU at Princeton. Princetons
President is a Canadian (his brother is the top man at McGill). Playing both
anthems in New Jersey between 2 US schools is inappropriate and if Coach
Cahoon is using is what is supposed to be a patriotic time of gratitude for
recruiting purposes as suggested by the author of the post- says legions about
hypocrisy and this in the holier than thou Ivy section of the ECAC. It should
have come to his (Cahoon's) attention that both Yale and Harvard feature 2
outstanding goalies who are New Jersey natives and that both of those schools
have more Garden Staters than Princeton. Cahoon is missing the boat. I
presume at some point that Cahoon will have to play the Finnish; Slovak;
Czech; Quebec anthem; etc as time goes on. Given that Hobart Baker was an
American War (and a native of Philadelphia) hero I wonder what he would think
of all of this. I would be happy with RPI if they could just manage to stand
reasonably still for the Star Spangled Banner and if their fans did not
trivialize a national Anthem by using it as a "fight song". In fairness to
Cahoon Princeton hockey would benefir from a natural rivalry with Rutgers;
Villanove; and Penn should those schools take hockey seriously.
