I'm not going to get involved in the current Maine debate, but here's
something that folks may find interesting.

Since I brought a couple of copies of U.S. COLLEGE HOCKEY MAGAZINE to my
office today -- to post things from -- I glanced at them during lunch. In
the February 5 issue, I noticed an interview with Maine Head Coach Shawn
Walsh that I had not previously read. The interview was done after Coach
Walsh's return from his suspension, but prior to the Tardif eligibility
situation being known. Here's a quick excerpt from the interview:

Chad Finn, USCHM: What would your response be if someone looked at things
that have happened with the NCAA this year -- even if they are truly honest
mistakes -- and questioned the integrity of your program?

Coach Walsh: I think anyone can formulate their own opinions. And I think
that's in the eyes of the beholder. I know darned well that we do
everything we can to follow the rules. God knows we don't cheat -- we don't
have to at Maine. And we wouldn't do anything like that, though you can't
control what people think, whether they be media people, people out there
who have ulterior motives in mind, anybody with a vendetta.

Also, in the introduction to the interview USCHM called Walsh "brash,
outspoken, sometimes arrogant". I know I'm about two weeks late with this
info, but this is the type of media commentary I was referring to when
replying to Coach Walsh's letter.

P.S. I promise, no more USCHM posts today. :-)
