The Maine State Library is hosting an online discussion of the second edition of R. David's Lankes' book Expect More: Demanding Better Libraries in Today's Complex World.
R. David Lankes, the new Director of the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina, is a nationally recognized library leader and a passionate advocate for libraries and our essential societal role. He holds positions that might be perceived as radical in some library circles but librarians do need to explore new ways of thinking in order to survive and thrive. We'll also have the opportunity to hear Dr. Lankes speak at the Maine Library Association Conference at Sunday River in November.
Join colleagues across the state for this discussion. Participants will read the assigned chapter for the week, use the workbook we've developed, which will be provided when you register, and be prepared to talk about the chapter when we meet via Adobe Connect over the course of eight (8) weeks. You will need a headset with microphone to fully participate in the discussion.
These virtual meetings will be held from 9am-10am on:
September 15 Chapter 1 The Arab Spring: Expect the Exceptional
September 22 Chapter 2 The Argument for Better Libraries: Expect Impact
September 29 Chapter 3 The Mission of Libraries: Expect More than Books
October 6 Chapter 4 Facilitating Knowledge Creation: Expect to Create
October 13 Chapter 5 Improve Society: Expect Grander
October 20 Chapter 6 Community: Expect a Platform
October 27 Chapter 7 Librarians: Expect Brilliance
November 3 Chapter 8 Action Plan: Expect More
Register at evanced.info/maine/evanced/eventsignup.asp?ID=3718
We hope you'll join this exciting discussion.
