In reviewing the incident at last fridays Badger Game, the officials
should investigate from the following perspective:
1) The level of checking and hitting that the league allows
by the enforcement or lack of enforcement of the rules.
2) The officiating of the game, as in were the refs. allowing
that type of "checking".
3) The orientation of the team - i.e. does the coach encourage
playing up to and occasionally crossing the rules and/or the
spirit of the rules. Also considered must be what was the
athelete recruited to do? Play or enforce?
4) What was the intention of the hit? Was it a legitimate hit
with bad aim, was it a intimidation shot, a warning blow, or
was it an attempt to remove a player.
5) Why did Hill check him as he did? Was he told to play tight
or was he doing it on his own accord?
I think if the league really investigates this they will find that
the problem will lie with hockey in the WCHA and not in Mr. Hill.
