Michigan 5, UIC 4

Scoring:
Michigan 1 2 2 - 5
UIC 2 0 2 - 4

Shots on goal
Michigan 8 15 9 - 32
UIC 8 7 6 - 21

Michigan scored early as the third line of David Oliver, Cam Stewart, and
Brian Wiseman formed a 3 on 2 break - Oliver made a lovely pass to Stewart as
he crossed the blue line; as the UIC defense closed up on Stewart and Oliver,
Stewart found Wiseman on the right side who had a clear shot to beat Goalie
Damian Holland at 1:30.

The UIC Flames responded on a power play. Defenseman Mike Demnnis fired a slap
shot from the right point to beat Goalie Steve Shields at Steve Shields at
4:05. Credit assists to Bob Melton and Larry Pilut.

Hope springs (sprung?) eternal for the Flames. UIC went ahead at 10:55 of the
first period on a goal by Larry Pilut from Mike Dennis and Dominic Dunlap.

The second period was all Michigan Blue. The Wolverines outgunned the Flames
15 to 6 but converted on only 2 goals. Dan Stiver scored at 2:13 -assists to
Ted Kramer and Mike Helber. Denny Felsner scored a power play goal on a
rebound at 7:09 from Mike Helber and Mark Ouimet. Typical of the action in
the second period was a shot by Damian Holland that hit the post as he tried
to sweep the puck away - yes, that's our goaltender. Give Holland credit for
withstanding the barrage!

The Flames recovered in the third period but Michigan seemed to have the game
in hand as David Roberts put the Wolverines up 4-2 at 7:30. Chris Tanner
assisted. UIC got new energy as Jim Maher scored close in at 8:07. A few
seconds later Rick Judson and Dominic Dunlap broke out in a 2 on 1 and JUdson
scored the tying goal at 8:54. Uic played some of their best hockey of the
season in the next few minutes but could not beat Steve Shields. David Oliver
scored the winning Michigan goal at 16:35 - assisted by Brian Wiseman.

UIC's penalty killing was the best we've seen this season.
