PROVIDENCE HOCKEY TIED BY UCONN, 2-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's ice hockey team skated to a
2-2 tie with the University of Connecticut in a non-league contest on
Friday, January 18 at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars opened the first period scoring when freshman Chris Chaput
(Pawtucket, R.I.) one-timed a feed from sophomore defenseman Dominic
Torretti (Ludlow, Mass.). Chaput's goal was the eighth of his rookie season.
Sophomore forward Cody Loughlean (Innisfail, Alta.) was credited with the
second assist on the Friars' goal.
Connecticut pulled even with the Friars in the second period, as the
Huskies' Matt Gew beat PC's Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) with an
unassisted tally.
Providence regained the lead 4:20 into the third period when senior Peter
Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) finished off some pretty passing and slipped his shot
under the pads of UConn's Artie Imbriano for the score. PC's one goal lead
did not stand up, though, as Connecticut's Anders Johnson and Charles Ridolf
pulled the Huskies even on a two-on-one break when Johnson banging the puck
past Schaefer at the 11:56 mark of the third period.
The Friars outplayed the Huskies, outshooting UConn, 56-22, by Imbriano had
a career night, stopping 54 shots in the tie. Schaefer recorded 20 saves for
the Friars.
Providence returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when they host No.
2-ranked St. Cloud State at 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena. The St. Cloud
State Huskies were defeated on Friday evening, 4-1, at Brown University.
