On a hopeful note: The powers-that-be for the East Regional seem to
have gotten this message. I live in the Binghamton area, about 2 hours
SW of Albany; there have been several TV ads for the regionals on local
TV this week. The ads seem to be well-targeted for the audience in this
area (Binghamton has had minor-league pro teams for years, but the closest
college program is at Cornell, about 50 miles away) -- the message being,
"see *the best* in college hockey", with a hint of "players that you may
see in the pros in the future". I assume that these ads are being
broadcast in other markets within a reasonable distance of Albany. We
can hope that these efforts will help prevent some of the dismal attendance
records for the regional in earlier years.

Ironically, I would normally be the "most likely target" for such ads, but
I will not be able to go to the regionals. (I'm singing in performances
of the Beethoven 9th Symphony on both Saturday and Sunday... so much for
timing!)
