I suppose the Cornell loss was pretty "stunning", though not unheard of. I
believe this win gives Army the edge in the all-time series between the two
teams, at something like 15-14-1. It's quite a comedown from the game at
Lynah last year between these two, which Cornell took by an 8-2 count.

This year, Cornell has used the non-league part of its schedule to do some
tinkering, and the game against Army was no exception. Freshman Jean-Marc
Pelletier started in goal, making his fifth appearance and third start of
the year -- all against non-league competition. Some of the lines were
jumbled up as well, though this may have had more to do with the injury
situation. The Big Red was missing a forward due to a knee injury (I can't
remember who it was, though I think it was Jamie Papp) and was short two
defensemen, Dan Dufresne (knee and wrist injuries) and Bill Holowatiuk
(back trouble). Mark Scollan, another forward, also did not dress for the
game. In their places were forwards Keith Peach and Jeff Maxwell, and
defenseman Jason Zubkus -- all of whom were seeing action in only their
second game of the season.

Still, Army played hard (not as physically in the past, surprisingly) and
earned the win over a Big Red team that, for the first two periods at
least, played dismally. Hopefully (for Big Red fans, anyway), Cornell can
regroup in time for the home-and-home series with travel partner Colgate,
which begins tomorrow night. The Big Red has not beaten the Red Raiders in
their last seven meetings, dating back to January of 1992.

One other note: it was reported on the radio broadcast of the game that
freshman forward Jesse Sampair has left the team.
