On January 12, 1992, during the NCAA Convention the CCHA granted "affiliate"
status to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, while the WCHA tabled a vote
until later that spring of the University of Alaska Anchorage's membership
request into the WCHA.

I believe both schools thought it was to much of a burden if both were to join
the same conference.

The WCHA granted UAA affiliate status for one year and the Seawolves are
currently in their second year as full members of the WCHA.

On May 12, 1994, CCHA Council granted full membership to UAF effective with the
1995-96 season. One major issue was that CCHA athletic directors wanted to
play a balanced schedule. After CCHA coaches came up with the idea of five
teams going to UAF each year for a three-game weekend series, and it was
determined that these trips could be made over school break periods, UAF was
voted into the CCHA.

If anyone has questions about this please feel free to E-mail me privately.
