Denying the WCHA regular season champions; Colorado College is a
tremendous mistake by the NCAA selection comitee. Michigan Tech defeated
Colorado College soley on the outstanding goaltending performance of
Jamie Ram. In the 3rd game which went into overtime Jamie Ram faced
something like 52 shots and only let in 1 goal, and Tech won the game.
Is this an indicator that Colorado College is an inferior team to
compete in the NCAA playoffs. Choosing Western Michigan who finished 4th
(Correct me if I'm wrong) and lost to Michigan makes absolutely no
sense. The fabulous computer related RPICH showed Western Michigan
slightly ahead of CC simply because they played in a couple of more
playoff games. This just proves that regular season hockey doesn't mean
squat to who will be picked into the NCAA tournament. Number 3 Wisconsin
loses to number 4 St. Cloud and still gets in probably because they
defeated Michigan this year which makes sense but Western Michigan makes
no sense at all. The most simplistic and and least conflicting approach
to this would have been to allow 3 teams from the WCHA (Minnesota,
Colorado College and Wisconsin) and 3 teams from the CCHA (Michigan,
Lake Superior State and Michigan State). Like I said before this is a
slap in the face to the WCHA because the quality of hockey which it
represents will only be partially shown, and this is even a bigger slap
in the face to the players, coaching staff and fans of Colorado College.
