>TECH HOCKEY TEAM GAINS TIE VS. UAA AND THREE OF FOUR POINTS ON WEEKEND
> Ulwelling Has Hat Trick and Assist To Lead Way
Houghton, Mich. -- Senior forward Matt Ulwelling had three goals and
an assist to help the Michigan Tech men's ice hockey team to gain a
4-4 overtime tie against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in WCHA play
Saturday (Jan. 20) night at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. With the
tie, the Huskies gained three of four points on the weekend.
Tech fell behind just 2:15 into the game when UAA's Dallas Steward
tallied from the right faceoff dot, but just 3:04 later Ulwelling got
the first of his three goals of the night to even things up and it
was a 1-1 deadlock after 20 minutes.
The Huskies went ahead at 3:07 of the middle stanza as Jon Pittis
buried one in front, with Matt Ulwelling and Tony DeLorenzo picking
up assists. UAA tied the game on Tyler Schnell's goal just 3:38
later, but Ulwelling sent Tech into the third period with a 3-2 lead
with his tally at 17:30 of the second.
UAA evened the game at 5:13 of the third, but Ulwelling buried his
third with 5:04 to play to put Tech back 4-3. But Tech's Brett
Engelhardt checked a UAA player from behind into the boards from
behind with 2:53 to play and the Huskies were shorthanded for five
minutes. UAA's capitalized with 1:56 left to play, to tie the game,
however, the Huskies held the Seawolves scoreless the remainder of
regulation and 2:07 into overtime.
After the power play expired, Tech carried the play, however, was held at bay.
Jason Moilanen had 22 saves in the Tech net, while Chris King had 31
stops in the UAA goal.
