The University of Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Minnestoa-Duluth Bulldogs
Friday evening at the Great Dane, and in the process, broke some streaks for
both teams.
 
-So far this season, when trailing after the 1st period, Wisconsin was 0-5.
-So far this season, when scoring the first goal of the game, UMD was
 undefeated.
 
Friday night, UMD scored the first and only goal of the opening period, which
left Wisconsin trailing after the first period.  However, UW played an
excellent game, and were able to withstand several tough UMD attacks.
 
UMD scored the tying goal with :04 seconds left in the second period, and did
the same with 1:57 remaining in the 3rd period.  In both instances, Wisconsin
rallied to take the lead again.  Darren Haley added an empty net goal to
finish off the Bulldogs.
 
NOTES OF INTEREST:  Freshman goaltender Mike Valley made his first collegiate
start Friday night for the Wisconsin Badgers.  Senior Kirk Daubenspeck was
given the night off, "officially" to give the freshmam some playing time.
"Unofficially" he was being disciplined by the Coach Sauer.
 
The game was very clean and penalty free, until the final moments where a
"scuffle" broke out between UMD's first line and UW's freshman line.  There
were a number of penalties given out.
 
They'll do it again tonight, same bat-time, same bat-channel.
