It only seems fitting. Patrice Tardif scored the game-winning goal with
5:46 left in the third period at BC. Patrice Tardif, the player in the
center of this maelstrom, comes through in the clutch and gives UMaine a
win in what will likely be the last college game of his career. After the
game, an angry, hurt and frustrated Shawn Walsh would only say of Tardif,
"That was a very appropriate goal by a very appropriate goal scorer.
Here's a guy who in three years got his undergraduate accounting degree,
and is a graduate student with a 3.17 GPA. Thats my last comment"
Walsh then closed the door to the locker room, and told the players in
a voice loud enough to be heard by reporters outside, that they were to
repeat only what he had said, nothing more. Patrice declined to offer
any comment after the game.

The game itself was one which would have drawn rave reviews had it
been played under different circumstances. Maine trailed 2-0 and 3-2,
but continued to fight on, with Mike Latendresse tying the game at 3-3
late in the second period, then assisting on Tardif's game-winner.
Chris Ferraro (who had assisted on brother Peter's goal, Maine's second of
the game) took a penalty with 1:57 left in the game. With 50 seconds
remaining, BC pulled goalie Greg Taylor to give the Eagles' a 6-4 man
advantage. Then with less than 20 seconds to go, Don Chase blocked Andy
Silverman's clearing attempt and walked in alone on Blair Allison but
Allison came up with a point-blank save to preserve the win.

Maine's official final record will stand at 6-27-1, 3-20-1 in HE. I think
its fair to say UMaine is the greatest 6-win team in hockey history.

More comments forth-coming in later posts.
