In reply to Mike's queries regarding the Cornell game:
There was no faceoff after the goal. This bothered me,
Mike, and I agree with you that it makes no sense not to have a
faceoff if the period is indeednot overwith. In fact, what happened
is that while the referee, captains, and timekeeper had a lengthy
discussion near the timekeeper's bench the Zamboni came out and began
to clean the ice. The Zamboni driver is a 20-year veteran, and was not
making a "rookie mistake."
I assume that they "round up" times in whatever fashion the
**visible** game clock does. Reasoning: the times of goals always
coincide with the time indicated by these visible clocks, at least
in my experience.
Incidentally, both teams' pairs of co-captains participated
in the discussion with referee Jim Cerbo. I wonder who the *real*
captains were.
