Good line and point taken, but speaking as somebody who will know for
certain whether he needs tickets only by Sunday night, I wish there was
some way to organize people to defeat what I think is a serious
paradox/ripoff caused by the NC$$. IMHO, this is the way the NC$$ should
sell tickets to the Frozen Four. (Please don't tell me this is
technologically impossible, because even those bozos have somebody on their
payroll who understands databases):
1. Decide EARLY which bracket's representatives will occupy which portion
of the building. #1W advancee in the South-East corner, etc...
2. Mark off the center ice segments on both sides and just sell them
higgledy-piggledy (big time "sp?"). Sell them four years in advance for
all I care. Sell them to law firms in exchange for billable hours for
those tragic Zamboni accidents, I don't care. Have the building protect
its butt. Now then, for the rational and fair part:
3. Tag orders for the corner sections by team affiliation, if the orderer
wishes it. In other words, I can buy my seats outright, and they are mine
unqualifiedly, or I can tag my order with "Cornell". Similarly, people
from North Dakota and Miami can order my same seats, tagged with their
school, with a max of one order from each school. Whoever advances, that
decides who owns the tickets ("Who own the Chiefs?" "Owns, owns...")
4. There probably has to be some provision for a block reserved for each
team to sell, for the same reasons these blocks are available now.
Currently, this consists in the regionals of 100x6=600 tickets out of
10,000. I think they can do better than that, but perhaps with the above
system they wouldn't have to.
5. Of course all this ignores the real economic potential of college
hockey: putting each team's NCAA Final Four future on the Commodities
Market. :-)
