Somebody was wondering about the MTU pep-band.
Here's the story...
1. No music majors at MTU, so the band consists of mostly engineers
and other science majors.
2. The band wears funny uniforms, which causes insanity.
3. Most members actually CARE about hockey games, and some might be
able to explain what Icing is, and offsides.
4. The pep-band does NOT get paid for play (unlike some ahem... bands)
This lets as many people play as possible, and there is no
competition for chair placement, or big bucks
5. There is no MARCHING at MTU. This band is a pep-band and that's it.
6. The MTU pep-band is orders of magnitude better than the NMU band.
That's a policy, not a brag.
That's about it.
Another comment was made about not seeing other bands during the
regular season..
The reason is the new "MTU Pep-band" rule, enacted by the WCHA a couple
years ago, pushed by Doug Wood (MN) and Rick Comely (NMU).
No bands, cheerleaders, mascots, etc. can go to a regular season away
game.
This rule is bunk, but NMU coach Rick Comely claims that having the
MTU band at NMU "takes away from their home field advantage..."
That's about it.
