The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for December 1, 1993:
Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.
The College Hockey Showcase/CCHA-WCHA Challenge, which included three of
HOCKEY-L's top 15 teams, had little effect on the rankings, despite the loss
suffered by each of the four that participated. Michigan and Wisconsin
didn't budge from their #1 and #6 spots, respectively (in spite of the
Badgers' 5-3 win against the Wolverines), and Michigan State dropped one
spot to #13.
The week's big gainer, not surprisingly, was RPI, benefitting from victories
over ranked opponents Bowling Green and Maine in the Dexter Shoe Classic.
After a week's hiatus from the HOCKEY-L poll, the Engineers reappear at #10.
Meanwhile, Mass Lowell's winless Thanksgiving cost them dearly in the poll,
as the Chiefs dropped six spots in the rankings.
A consensus appears to be forming among voters as to who the top 15 teams
are (though there isn't much agreement on the order yet). There were ten
"others receiving votes" this week, but there was a sharp drop-off after #15
Mass Lowell. The Chiefs took the last spot in the HOCKEY-L poll by a com-
fortable 62-point margin over Colgate.
By the way, this is the fourth straight week that Michigan and Maine have
been 1-2 in the HOCKEY-L poll.

Dropped out of Top 15: Michigan Tech (#15 last week)
One somewhat interesting note from this week's East-West split: all of the
non-Michigan #1 votes came from the West.

As usual, there are some disagreements between the HOCKEY-L and media polls
(what do those media folks know, anyway? :-) The media is not as impressed
with New Hampshire as HOCKEY-L is, and they remain more impressed with RPI.

In the ratings composite, note that TCHCR and CHODR show some strong
differences of opinion -- which is not surprising, considering that they are
calculated in somewhat different ways. Note the divergent opinions on
Northeastern (#4 in TCHCR, #16 in CHODR), and, even more so, Boston College
(#25 in TCHCR, #3 in CHODR).
