Bravo Erik for putting in a quote from Slapshot into an otherwise serious discussion. However, can anyone dust-off the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames discussion? Academically, Wayne State is a great university, but I was surprised as heck when I first realized they had a hockey team. If you were to rank the oddest places for Div. 1 programs, surely Alabama-Huntsville takes the prize, but downtown Detroit is not far behind. Transportation costs and Tit-9 notwithstanding, they stood little chance of competing with the other 7 or so Div. 1 programs in the state, and the 5 or so in Ohio. However, this loss to college hockey is not about on-ice performance, or is it?

I can't name names, but let's just say that there's a college in a southern
state that's in the market for a hockey team.
