Just wanted to point out a couple of things:
1) Games against Maine *do* count
2) Games against Mankato also count (this was learned recently and is
reflected now on USCHO)
Someone had asked why games against Maine should count. The reason is
simple: those games make up the overall performance of whatever team you
are looking at. If Maine does well (which they did) and you beat them, you
should receive credit for that whether or not they are eligible. And even
if you don't beat them, you should not benefit by having those games
discounted.
BU has lost to Maine three times. Would, say, Clarkson fans (whose team
beat BU) want BU's games against Maine not to count? I doubt it. On the
one hand BU has a better winning percentage if you leave out their games
against Maine. On the other hand, BU's chances of obtaining a bid or
higher seed would improve greatly, as Charlie showed.
