This is unscientific. As was pointed out, the original post implied that I
was looking for "program builders", and the subsequent clarification (to
state that I was NOT head-hunting the current MSU coach) asked for the best
overall coach. So for entertainment purposes only:
Total ballots mentioning at least 3 names: 15
Ballots giving one name: 3
Ballots naming only non-current coaches: 3
The tally is (1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th-total)
Name (school)
Jackson (LSSU) (6-4-2-1-2-15)
Walsh ("Maine") (1-4-2-3-1-11)
Gwozdecky (Denver) (1-2-2-2-1-8)
Mason (Mich St) (2-1-3-0-0-6)
Lucia (CC) (0-1-3-2-0-6)
Berenson (Mich) (0-1-1-1-3-6)
Crowder (UML) (2-0-0-1-2-5)
Woog (Minn) (1-1-1-1-0-4)
Parker (BU) (1-1-1-1-0-4)
Cromley (NMU) (0-0-0-0-1-1)
Schaffer (Notre Dame?) (0-0-0-0-1-1)
Pooley (Prov) (1-0-0-0-1-2)
Marsh (SLU) (2-0-0-0-0-2)
"Bring back": Len Ceglarski, Charlie Holt, Gino Gasparini, and Lou
Lamoriello
"others": Niagara head coach Blaise MacDonald, Clarkson's assistant George
Roll, of course the current Mankato State head coach (and I'm embarrassed to
say it, but I deleted his name and can't remember it)
Comments: Red Berenson seemed to suffer most from non-hockey actions
(something about an incident with a bar, a parking lot, and a library).
More than one questioned how well he d do at other than Michigan, because of
his allegiance to the Maize n Blue.
As you can tell by adding, many people didn t give me 5.
Thanks for the good discussion! Any more?
