I'm writing to announce our new GIS programs at University of Maine at
Machias, including our new certificate program that blends distance
education with occasional on-site weekend classes. Please accept my
apologies in advance if you've received this notice more than once.

The GIS Certificate Program at UMM allows you to get a GIS certificate
in two years or less on your own schedule.
It includes several courses in a hybrid format, blending the
convenience of online learning with the support of face-to-face
interaction with college faculty. Each hybrid course features:

   * Three weekend days of on-campus instruction at beginning, middle
     and end of the semester
   * Hands-on laboratory exercises you can do on your own computer
   * Free, professional GIS software
   * Online lecture videos that bring personal instruction to you
   * Service projects with real-world applications of GIS
   * Accessible, helpful faculty ready to communicate via phone, web
     chat or video conferencing

Other courses are offered entirely online, in a short intensive format
(i.e. one-week or two-weekend intensive courses), or through
independent studies.

program:

Also, we are now offering a Bachelor of Science in Environmental
Studies with a Geographic Information Systems Concentration. This
program is a terrific way to combine an interest in the great outdoors
with an interest in computers and cyberspace.

Finally, a GIS minor is now available with any major at UMM, including
Community Studies, Recreation and Tourism Management and Marine Biology.

You can learn more about our program at http://www.umm.maine.edu/gis.html.

Please pass the word onto any colleagues or friends who might be
interested, and feel free to contact us with any questions.

Happy spring!
Tora
