I haven't seen any of the Maine people mention this, so here
it is.
Maine will expand the seating capacity of its Alfond Arena from
3,555 to ~6,000 after the 90-91 season. Maine has sold out
83 regular season games in a row and with standing room only,
crowds have averaged close to 4,500, I believe. The expansion is
made possible by a $2 million grant from benefactor Harold Alfond.
Currently, Boston College's Conte Forum is the largest rink in
Hockey East (7,884) with Northeastern's Matthews Arena (6,000) in
second place. There are five HE rinks with seating capacities
greater than Maine's right now.
