                         LAKE SUPERIOR CLAIMS NCAA TITLE

ANN ARBOR-Lake Superior State University claimed the fourth NCAA title by a
CCHA team with a 5-3 win over Wisconsin in Saturday's national championship
game in Albany, New York. It is the second NCAA title for the Lakers (first
was in 1988 in Lake Placid with a 4-3 overtime win over St. Lawrence).

The Lakers will begin the 1992-93 season with a 10-game winning streak that
began on March 6-7 with a home sweep of Western Michigan (6-1, 3-2). The
season-ending win streak included victories over four of the top six ranked
teams in the nation.

led the country with 44 goals (20 on the power play, also best in the nation).
Michigan senior Denny Felsner led all NCAA Division I skaters with 94 points
on 42 goals and 52 assists. Lake Superior junior netminder Darrin Madeley led

CCHA players claim five first team All-America spots: The four first team
All-CCHA unanimous honorees (goalie Darrin Madeley, LSSU; defenseman Mark
Astley, LSSU; forward Denny Felsner, Michigan; and forward Dwayne Norris,
Michigan State) all were selected to the 1991-92 Titan/AHCA West All-American
First Team. In addition, Michigan State defenseman Joby Messier also garnered
a spot on the first team. The West All-Americans were announced on Saturday,
April 11th at the Decathlon Club of Bloomington, Minnesota. This is the
second most CCHA players selected to the First team (1988-89 all six first
team selections were from CCHA teams).

LSSU netminder Darrin Madeley was the only repeat first team selection from a
year ago, while Felsner moved up from the second to the first team. Dallas
Drake of Northern Michigan was also selected to the first team.

Mason selected AHCA national Coach-of-the-Year: Michigan State University
head coach Ron Mason has been selected the AHCA Division I Coach of the Year
by the American Hockey Coaches Association. The Spartans, picked fifth in the
CCHA during the pre-season, finished in third place in both the CCHA regular
season and playoffs while also being a semi-finalist in the NCAA tournament.
Mason will receive the Spencer Penrose Award during the AHCA Annual Convention
in Naples, Florida on Sunday, April 26. Mason is the third CCHA coach to be
selected national coach of the year (Rick Comley, NMU, 1980 and Frank Anzalone,
LSSU, 1988). Bowling Green's Jerry York won in 1977 while coach at Clarkson.
