The University of Vermont beat Union 4-1 Friday night.

The Catamounts played a solid game, utilizing their speed to limit the
Dutchmen to13 shots on goal.

The Dutchman did score first, at 17:5 on a shorthanded unassisted goal
late in the first period. A defensive miscue at the blue line left Jason
Ralph on a breakaway and he poked his rebound past goaltender Andrew Allen,
putting Union up 1 -0.

UVM dominated the first two periods, forcing the play to be in Union's end
throughout. In the second period, UVM scored 3 unanswered goal. BJ
Kilboourne, scored Vermont's first goal on the power play, taking a broken
play and driving a shot past Leeor Shtrom at 4:56. Philippe Choinere
scored on a grinding play, working the puck down low and roofing a nice
feed from the corner from Jason Reid at 8:06.
The third UVM goal was scored off a turnover, and Kevin Karlander scored on
a wonderful feed from Martin Wilde from the corner on a quick one time shot
at 14:36

In the third period, Union appeared to slow down UVM, with the play being
much more even then the first two. Play got a bit chippy, and JF Cauldron
finished the scoring on a breakaway, being sent in all alone from center
ice on a nice pass from Moborg at 17:27.

Observations: UVM had far too much speed for Union. The play was in the
Dutchman's defensive zone most of the first two periods. The final shot
count for the game was 36 to 13, UVM. Union's goaltender Shtrom played a
very solid game, and made several outstanding saves. Andrew Allen played
well, only giving up the one shorthanded goal on a breakaway.
