I have to admit that I was extremely impressed with the way that Coach Brad
Buetow got his team fired for this game. The Tigers of Colorado College played
very well, and they never once gave up, even to the last minutes of the game.
The game itself was fairly fast paced and fun to watch, and it was evident that
both teams came to the arena ready to play. The Seawolves are now 2-0 lifetime
against Colorado College.

UAA got on the scoreboard first when Jim Mayes took a pass from Jeff Batters
and popped it up and over goalie Paul Frank into the net with about six minutes
left to play in the period. There were only single penalties called against
each team in the first, and control of the puck appeared to be evenly spilt.

The second period started with UAA getting a couple of good offensive charges,
but after four roughing penalties were called at 4:39 into the period, play was
reduced to 3 on 3. Jon Steiner of the Tigers blistered a shot from about five
feet inside the blue line, and the puck ricochetted off the post into the net,
to tie the score up at 1-1. Colorado took the lead with their second goal of
the night exactly four minutes later when Grant Block stole the puck at the
blue line and went 1 on 1 with the Paul Krake to score a short handed goal.
However, determined not to let UAA stay behind, Mark Stitt of the Seawolves
made a fabulous severe angle shot which he shot high over CC's goalie and into
the net. Derek Donald finished off the scoring for the period when he brought
the puck in from the blue line and shot it up over Paul Frank to raise UAA to a
lead of 3-2.

Although Colorado College had a very big offensive push in the third (23 shots
on goal), the Seawolves scored the only point in the period when Keith Morris
took a crisp pass from Derek Donald and shot it straight in from the right face
off circle on a power play goal. Later in the period, UAA successfully killed
off a 5 on 3 power play. Though there were several chances for Colorado
College to score, I felt that the Seawolve defense and Paul Krake did an
excellent job of keeping them from doing so.

I am looking forward for tomorrow's game (is sold out: 6,421) when the
Seawolves will go head to head with the defending national champions, and the
team that ended UAA's post-season play, the Wildcats of Northern Michigan! In
addition, the Tigers will play in the consolation game with the Bulldogs of
Ferris State.
