FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUSKIES OFF TO ALASKA ANCHORAGE THIS WEEKEND

This Week: The Michigan Technological University hockey team will journey
to Anchorage, Alaska, for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association
series against the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves this weekend.
Both Friday (Dec. 9) and Saturday's (Dec. 10) games are set for 7:05 p.m.
(AT) faceoffs at the Sullivan Arena (6,406).

The Broadcast: All Michigan Tech games can be heard live on WZRK radio,
93.5 FM. Bob Olson, the dean of broadcasters in the WCHA, is in his 24th
season as the voice of the Huskies. Volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way is
back for his fifth year providing color commentary.

The Records: MTU is 7-6-2 on the season overall and 5-6-1 in the WCHA after
being swept by defending-MacNaughton Cup champion Colorado College last
weekend. Alaska Anchorage is 4-10-0 in all games and 3-9-0 in the WCHA. The
Seawolves are coming off a home sweep of North Dakota.

The Coaches: Bob Mancini (Colorado College, 1982) is in his third year
behind the bench at MTU. He owns a 37-48-12 record at the school and in
four-plus years as a college head coach sports a 73-80-24 mark. Brush
Christiansen (Alaska Methodist, 1972) is in his 16th season as head coach
at Alaska Anchorage. He has a career mark of 269-181-25.

The Series: Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage will meet for the eighth and
ninth times this weekend in Anchorage, Alaska. In the all-time series,
which dates back to the 1988-89 season, the Seawolves have a 5-0-2
advantage over the Huskies.

Coach Mancini on the UAA Series: "We've never beaten Anchorage and
obviously we'd like to change that this weekend. We've played well on the
road this season and I anticipate nothing but the same from our team this
weekend."

Coach Mancini on the CC Series: "I thought we played perhaps our best game
of the year on Friday and didn't win. We just couldn't get the puck by
Bach. Saturday, we got behind early and were just never able to recover. I
will say one thing. There's absolutely no question that Colorado College is
one of the very top teams in the country."

Huskies Hints: The nine goals scored by Colorado College last Saturday
(Dec. 3) vs. the Huskies marked the most by an MTU opponent in 97 games.
The last team to rack up nine goals vs. MTU was Northern Michigan, back on
March 13, 1992, in a WCHA playoff game in Marquette, Mich. . . . Senior
left wing and captain Brent Peterson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored a goal in
each game last weekend vs. Colorado College to extend his point streak to a
season-high five games. Peterson has scored at least one goal in six of the
Huskies' last eight contests . . . Senior center Travis Seale (Mississauga,
Ont.) became just the second MTU player to record a multi-goal game this
season last Saturday vs. Colorado College as he scored twice . . . MTU is
3-5-0 at home this season and 4-1-2 on the road. The Huskies are 0-3-0 in
their gold jerseys . . . The four shorthanded goals Colorado College
registered against MTU last Saturday (Dec. 3) was one off the WCHA
single-game record of five which the Tigers set back in 1981 against
Minnesota . . . The Huskies will be looking to pick up their eighth win of
the season Friday (Dec. 9) at Alaska Anchorage. MTU did not record its
eighth win of the season last year until the 32nd game . . . Senior right
wing Randy Stevens (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), who has been plagued by a
shoulder injury all season, gained his first points of the year last
weekend vs. Colorado College. Stevens had two assists in the series, one in
each game . . . Freshman goaltender Matt Kucway (Livonia, Mich.) got his
first assignment in goal last Saturday (Dec. 3) against Colorado College as
he played the third period. Kucway, who joined the team on Nov. 22, was
going to school at Purdue University to pursue his degree in mechanical
engineering when he was asked by MTU coach Bob Mancini if he'd be
interested in joining the team. Last year, Kucway spent the first half of
the year playing for Dubuque of the United States Hockey League, before
going to the Cleveland Junior Barons of the North American Hockey League at
the Christmas break . . . MTU assistant coach Scott White and his wife
Kathryn are the proud new parents of William Addison White, born Nov. 30 at
7 p.m. (EST). The baby weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces at birth and was 19.25"
long . . . Colorado College has won four straight games vs. MTU at the
MacInnes Student Ice Arena . . . Junior center Pat Mikesch (Hancock, Mich.)
was held without a point in last weekend's series with Colorado College.
