MTU RETURNS HOME TO FACE COLORADO COLLEGE

This Week: The Michigan Technological University hockey team returns home
for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against
defending-MacNaughton Cup champion Colorado College this weekend. Friday's
(Dec. 2) contest will faceoff at 7:35 p.m. (EST), while Saturday's rematch
is slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be staged at the MacInnes
Student Ice Arena (4,200) on the MTU campus.

The Broadcast: All Michigan Tech games can be heard live on WZRK radio,
93.5 FM. Bob Olson, the dean of broadcasters in the WCHA, is in his 24th
season as the voice of the Huskies. Volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way is
back for his fifth year providing color commentary.

The Records: MTU is 7-4-2 on the season overall and 5-4-1 in the WCHA after
taking three of four points at Minnesota-Duluth last weekend. Colorado
College, which won both ends of a non-conference series at Air Force last
weekend, is 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the WCHA.

The Coaches: Bob Mancini (Colorado College, 1982) is in his third year
behind the bench at MTU. He owns a 37-46-12 record at the school and in
four-plus years as a college head coach sports a 73-78-24 mark. Don Lucia
(Notre Dame, 1981) is in his second season as head coach at Colorado
College and owns a 33-13-5 mark. In seven-plus seasons as a college head
coach, Lucia has a 134-112-15 career record.

The Series: Michigan Tech and Colorado College will meet for the 119th and
120th times ever this weekend. In the all-time series, which dates back to
the 1946-47 season, the Huskies have a 65-49-4 advantage over the Tigers.
Last year, MTU was 2-3-2 vs. CC, including an 0-2-0 record at home.

Coach Mancini on the CC Series: "Obviously Colorado College is an excellent
team. They've got some very talented players up front and have the
capability to score a lot of goals. We're looking forward to the challenge
the weekend brings in our last home series of 1994."

Coach Mancini on the UMD Series: "I'm very proud of our players. They
gave a solid effort all weekend and got three tough points on the road."

Huskies Hints: MTU improved to 4-1-2 on the road with a win and a tie at
Minnesota-Duluth last weekend. MTU is off to its best road start since
1980-81 . . . The Huskies held Minnesota-Duluth to just two power play
goals in 22 chances last weekend . . . Sophomore goaltender Luciano
Caravaggio (Etobicoke, Ont.) made a career-high 61 saves in leading MTU to
a 1-1 overtime tie at Minnesota-Duluth last Friday (Nov. 25) . . . The
three points MTU gained at UMD last weekend are the most for the Huskies in
a road series since Jan. 8-9, 1993, when MTU won twice at Colorado College
. . . MTU is 7-4-2 overall, its best start to a season since 1983-84 . . .
Junior center Pat Mikesch (Hancock, Mich.) has at least one point in 11 of
MTU's 13 games. Mikesch had one assist Friday (Nov. 25) at UMD and picked
up two helpers in Saturday's (Nov. 26) contest vs. the Bulldogs . . .
Sophomore left wing Jason Prokopetz (Esterhazy, Sask.) gained his first
collegiate goal at 13:06 of the third period last Saturday (Nov. 26) at UMD
. . . MTU's offensive attack continues to be a very balanced one. Only once
this season has a player scored two goals in a game, that being Mike
Figliomeni against Laurentian on Oct. 14 . . . Mafia Night, sponsored by
MTU athletics and Godfather's Pizza of Houghton, comes to the MacInnes
Student Ice Arena Saturday (Dec. 3) when the Huskies tangle with Colorado
College. All fans wearing any type of mafia-related costume will receive a
coupon good for a free soda at Godfather's Pizza of Houghton. The top five
costumes will receive various prizes, with first place receiving one free
jumbo pizza of choice at Godfather's once a month for an entire year . . .
Senior defenseman Jason Hanchuk (Nepean, Ont.) missed Saturday's (Nov. 26)
game at UMD due to an ankle injury he suffered in Friday's (Nov. 25) game
vs. the Bulldogs. Hanchuk is probable for this weekend's series vs.
Colorado College . . . Freshman Andy Sutton (Kingston, Ont.) played defense
Saturday (Nov. 26) at UMD. Sutton, who coming into the game had played in
five games, all at forward, has played defense the majority of his career.
The three years prior to arriving at MTU he played forward, however, prior
to that, he played defense his entire career . . . Sophomore defenseman
Travis VanTighem (Calgary, Alta.) picked up his first collegiate point with
an assist in last Saturday's 5-3 win at UMD.
