Ohio State used some grit on and behind the goal line to come from two
goals down to beat the Gryphons of the University of Guelph.  The game
featured a stoppage in play to resurface a portion of the ice after a
fluorescent light fixture was hit with a puck showing the ice with broken
glass.  Also, talk has been hot about Ohio State making St. Johns Arena
into an ice rink when tehy build the new basketball facility.  Well, the
Buckeye is rink is "getting its foot in the door" since for this season,
the consessions and rest rooms in St. Johns Arena will be availble to fans
at hockey games.  Swell.
 
The game looked like it might get embarrassing for Ohio State early
on.  Guelph took the lead when Buckeye goaltender Tom Askey fanned on a
routine clearing play, leaving the puck in the crease with Guelph's Craig
McFarlane charging down the slot.  The Buckeyes battled back and took the
lead for good on Freshman Todd Compeau's first career goal.  It may be his
last for a while as he was later forced to leave the game with a leg injury.
 
This Buckeye squad was picked by both coaches and the media to finish dead
last in the CCHA.  I don't hink it will happen.  While they didn't look
polished, the old Buckeyes would have folded their tents down 3-1 but this
team hung in there.  Further, the top line of Sellers, Power and Holmes
has some punch accounting for 11 of the Buckeye's 17 points tonight.
