#14 Providence defeats st. Lawrence, 4-2

CANTON, N.Y. -- The 14th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team
defeated St. Lawrence, 4-2, on Saturday, November 30 at the Appleton Arena.
The win ended PC's five game winless streak. The Friars last won on
November 9 against Northeastern..
Providence scored first when senior Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) skated in
on a 2-on-1 rush and found senior Jon DiSalvatore (S. Windsor, Conn.), who
tallied his seventh goal of the season at 4:36 of the first period. The
Friars increased their lead to 2-0 as Fregoe scored a power-play goal at
the 9:21. For Fregoe, it was his team leading 12th goal of the season.
However, the Saints cut the lead to 2-1 just 22 seconds later as T.J.
Trevelyan recorded his second goal of the season. Less than five minutes
later, the Saints tied the game at 2-2 on Josh Anderson's goal at 14:39.
The Friars regained the lead late in the second period on a 5-on-3 power
play. Junior Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass) eluded one defender, and tucked
a back hander past Saints' goaltender Sean Knaub at 15:25 for his first
goal of the season. Wood struck again to give the Friars a 4-2 lead at the
8:38 mark of the third period as his screen shot from the blue line eluded
Knaub. The Saints pulled Knaub for an extra attacker, but the Friar
defense, led by freshman netminder Bobby Goepfert (Kings Park, N.Y.) held
off the Saints. Goepfert made a career high 47 saves in net for the Friars,
while Knaub stopped 22 shots.
The Friars will next play on Thursday, December 5 versus Merrimack in
Merrimack in North Andover, Mass.
