UMASS DARTMOUTH COMES FROM BEHIND TO EDGE SALVE REGINA, 3-2

PORTSMOUTH, RI–The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team scored twice in the third period to earn a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over host Salve Regina in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast hockey game at the Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink Wednesday night.

Senior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) scored the tying goal and set up the game winning goal in the third period, which began with the Seahawks holding a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore forward Chris Shore (West Haven, CT/Winchendon Academy) started the Corsairs’ comeback, taking a back door pass from junior defenseman Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) and tipping it past SRU goaltender Chase Goodrich at 12:51 of the second period to cut the Salve lead to 2-1. Lindner tied the score when he fired a 40-foot slap shot past Goodrich at 11:46 of the third period. Junior forward Tyler Vrolyk (Boylston, MA/New England Junior Falcons) took Lindner’s pass and fired home a one-timer for the game-winning goal at 12:03.

Travis Hampton gave SRU a 1-0 lead when he scored a power play goal at 8:04 of the first period. Nick Bartelloni made it 2-0 at 9:24 of the second.

“Our second line got the job done for us tonight,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “It was important for us to be able to come back and win after falling behind, 2-0, on the road.”

UMass Dartmouth sophomore goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) stopped all 29 Falcon shots for his second shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. He stopped all 15 FSC shots in the period, in which the Falcons out shot UMass Dartmouth, 15-12 and failed to score despite four power play chances, including a five on three advantage for 55 seconds.

UMass Dartmouth out shot Salve Regina, 40-39. Goodrich and Corsair sophomore goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) each made 37 saves.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 18-1-1 and 10-0-0 in conference play with the victory, while Salve Regina fell to 7-11-1 and 5-5-0 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Franklin Pierce in an ECAC Northeast match up Saturday afternoon.
