UNH can't go west!!! They are not just a #1 seed they are the #1 seed. The
seedings start with them and goes accordingly. The only bye teams that
should move are the two #2's so they can get the 1-4, 2-3 match up in the
FF. There is no way UNH gets sent west.

The Michigan scenario seems fairly straightforward, except for deciding
whether Denver or Minnesota comes to Worcester.

The Michigan State scenario opens all sorts of questions:
(1) Who comes East as a seed from the West? Is it the #3, Michigan State, or
do they stay close to home, which also reduces the chance of WCHA matchups
in the second round. Or is it Denver, with the long plane flight in any
case?

(2) Who goes West from the East? Is it Harvard, as Wayne suggests below? To
me, Maine would be the obvious choice because Maine is ahead of St. Cloud
and therefore better deserves a 3 seed, plus this eliminates the possibility
of a Maine-UNH rematch (and incidentally provides the possibility of 3 HEA
teams in the semifinals). Or you can make the case that for attendance
purposes, UNH should go West since they only can play 1 game in Worcester,
while Maine can play two. (I hope they're not thinking about the money...)

Harvard just beat Cornell near the end of the 2nd OT in Lake Placid,
4-3.

Michigan and Michigan State will play tomorrow for the CCHA
Championship.

Using http://slack.net/hockey it appears the following NCAAs *may* be
announced tomorrow night by the NCAA:

If Michigan wins tomorrow:

5W Michigan (C) 6E Harvard (E)
4W St Cloud (W) 3E Maine (H)
     1W Denver U (W) --+--2E Boston Univ (H)
                           |
     2W Minnesota (W) --+--1E New Hampshire (H)
3W Mich State (C) 4E Cornell (E)
6W CO College (W) 5E Quinnipiac (M)

If Michigan State wins tomorrow:

5W Michigan (C) 6E Quinnipiac (M)
4W CO College (W) 3E Boston Univ (H)
     1W Denver U (W) --+--2E Minnesota (W)
                           |
     2W Mich State (C) --+--1E New Hampshire (H)
3W St Cloud (W) 4E Maine (H)
6W Harvard (E) 5E Cornell (E)

Of course, I've tortured you with this, but it's only my expectation of
how the NCAA selection committee will follow sometimes conflicting NCAA
and Men's Ice Hockey rules and past practices. We'll see! :-)

cheers, wayne
