Or, as they say in cricket, "The umpire is not a boundary!"
I was going to guess that there's some rule about having a
faceoff if an official's interference gives a clear advantage to one
team (and a goal would certainly count), but I'm sure I've seen
clearing attempts kept in by the linesman without play being stopped.
