St. Cloud State Women Defeat Bemidji, 8-6
Bemidji, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University women's hockey charted a solid
8-6 win at Bemidji State University on Jan. 19. The game was the fourth
consecutive win for SCSU, while it improved its overall record to 12-10-1,
8-6-1 WCHA. BSU falls to 6-15-0, 4-11-0 WCHA.
SCSU jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by Bridget
Davenport and Ricki-Lee Doyle (18th of the season). BSU rebounded with a
goal by Kerri McEwen before Abby Cooper added another goal at 15:44 of the
first. BSU completed the first period with a goal by Caesare Stimson at
17:06.
In the second, USCHO offensive player of the week Roxanne Stang gained her
13th goal of the season with a tally at 2:12 before BSU's Jeanna Grimsrud
hit back-to-back goals. Stang finished the period with her 14th goal of the
season at 16:05. In the final period, SCSU charted goals by Erin McNamara,
Kobi Kawamoto (game winning goal) and Fiona McLeod to win the game. Laura
Gieselman and Ellen Brinkman teammed up for the win in the nets with 27
saves between them. As a team, SCSU outshot BSU 46-33. The two teams will
play again on Jan. 20, at 7:05 p.m.
